The results of the choreographic research will be presented and explored in an open discussion.
The focus will be on the following questions:
How is the form perceived (visually/tactilely/audibly)?
Does the form always give rise to content or meaning?
If so, is the meaning universally understandable, or does it vary depending on perspective?
The research is based on the piece Underneath the Clouds. This work was created in 2023 out of a curiosity about what forms are present in Johanna Greiner’s movement language after four years of formal dance training. The question was: Are the traces of expressive dance,
Flying Low, the Humphrey/Limón tradition, contact improvisation, and the Judson Dance
Theatre recognizable in her work, or has a new movement language
emerged through her expression? The answer is yes—the influences mentioned above are visible in the work of the choreographer, and they came together in a way that communicated a very personal
theme: the artist’s female family ties.
