OPEN FORM:AT - CLARA-MARIE MÜLLER
OPEN STUDIO

In my choreographic research, I explore various inner emotional states and how to translate these into the space and into choreographic elements.

In my work vibrant matter/s, I have explored anger as a life-affirming feminist force through dance and choreography. In this piece, I investigate the intersections of intense physical states: anger, the erotic and bodily pleasure – for me, all three are connected to a deep listening to life and to life within oneself. Inspired by Sarah Ahmed’s Feminist Killjoy and Audre Lorde’s The Power of the Erotic, I am interested in a space-filling, life-affirming quality. I define the erotic here as a quality of aliveness and presence. In my current choreographic research, landscapes of tenderness, I am exploring tenderness as an inner state and how to make this tangible in space through choreographic elements.

Specifically, I would like to use the FORM:AT residency to develop two workshop formats based on ‘vibrant matter/s’ and ‘landscapes of tenderness’:

On Monday (13 April) and Friday (17 April), the focus will be on physical exploration and working with various ‘sensational states’ that I have explored during the creative process.

On Saturday (18 April), I would like to focus more on the choreographic working methods that have emerged from the research and continue to evolve. These will serve as a starting point for working on individual small-scale choreographic projects or scenes, using whatever the participants bring with them. No prior knowledge or preparation is required; just an interest and an openness to experimentation.

As part of this OPEN STUDIO, I will share insights into this process, as well as ideas, practices, questions and aspirations that have emerged during the residency, and open up a space for exchange
