In my choreographic research, I explore various inner emotional states and how to translate them into space and choreographic elements.
In my work vibrant matter/s, I dealt with anger as a life-affirming feminist force and with the importance of anger for political change.
Inspired by Sarah Ahmed's ‘feminist killjoy’ and Audre Lorde's ‘the power of the erotic,’ I am interested in a space-occupying, life-affirming quality. I asked myself what it would mean to embody a ‘female gaze’ or ‘queer gaze’ versus the ‘male gaze,’ to which we are, in a way, unquestioningly subjected everywhere.
I don't necessarily define the erotic as something sexual, but rather as a quality of liveliness and presence. I am interested in what the erotic, anger and pleasure have in common in the body – for me, all three have a quality that takes up space, outwardly, making itself visible.
Specifically, I would like to use the FORM working time to develop material for workshops in which we work on different qualities of movement based on methodologies from vibrant matter/s, on different states of presence, on choreographic approaches that may also include objects.
For example, I use different styles of music, working with personal life stories and Authentic Movement as examples that I would like to develop further.
For example, I use different styles of music, working with personal life stories and authentic movement as examples that I would like to develop further and give a dramaturgy/temporality for longer workshops of creative choreographic work (over one day and several days).
In my current choreographic research project, ‘landscapes of tenderness,’ I am exploring tenderness as an inner state and how to make it tangible in space through choreographic elements (for example, I am working with hanging, swinging stones).
