We’re doing it ourselves! At the :juba – youth baroque music festival, young people organise their own festival of early music. Together with the Furore Ensemble and Merzouga, pupils from the Wasseramselweg Comprehensive School and the Köln-Pesch Grammar School are putting together short concerts, creative workshops and a colourful supporting programme for young people and families – this year under the promising motto: Mind Chaos – A Whiff of the Future.
Das :juba
The Jugend Barock Musik Festival is Germany’s first festival of early music organised by young people. Supported by the zamus team, professional ensembles selected by the young people themselves, and cultural figures from a wide range of fields, school pupils develop the festival entirely on their own. Primarily through their work as artistic directors of the festival, but also in project management and public relations, they develop their own approaches to early music. :juba builds self-confidence: the young people are able to actively put their strengths to use, they are given real decision-making power, and after several months they see the impressive results of their work – they become creators of culture.
