FOMO
KHARABA & GUESTS / Khadidiatou Bangoura

OPEN FORM(AT) SHOWING

The research project 'FOMO' is a laboratory in which KHARABA & GUESTS explore, test and develop methods and strategies for an improvised dance piece. The piece is intended to have a distinct, unmistakable essence, whilst at the same time being able to be different at every performance: perceived impulses lead to decisions, from which unexpected twists emerge. The dance unfolds in response to what happens moment by moment, without a fixed sequence. The starting point for the development of this work is the 'PLAYTIME' format, in which participants improvise together based on a set of rules. Furthermore, work continues on the exploration and development of an auditory dramaturgy as a dimension that broadens access to dance pieces. In the context of this work, auditory dramaturgy refers to the conscious artistic design of the audible elements of a dance piece. There is a specific focus on listening as an aesthetic means of engaging with the piece, enabling the audience to perceive its progression, events and moods.

Khadidiatou Bangoura

is a dancer and choreographer from Cologne and the director of KHARABA & GUESTS. She has roots in Guinea and Liberia, was born in France and grew up in Germany. After studying International Relations, Development Studies and African Studies in London, she trained in dance at Danceworks Berlin and the Tictac Art Centre in Brussels. Her work explores relationality and perception. She examines our relationships with ourselves, with one another and with our environment – in search of new narratives and perspectives, greater self-reflection and deeper self-awareness. Her works include “FEEL THE WORLD THROUGH MY SKIN – Observations on everyday racism” (2021), “LIFE IS A JUNGLE” (2024), a dance performance for blind, visually impaired and sighted audiences, and “PINKE PINKE – a poetic reflection on money” (2025). Since 2024, she has been running the inclusive workshop “DANCE TO THE MUSIC” and the improvisation sessions “PLAYTIME”. In 2024, she was artistic co-director of the Sommerblut cultural festival and is a member of the advisory board for the FAVORITEN Festival 2026.
