Impro & Komposition
Erika Winkler

Experience level All Levels: Open to all experience levels. Through variations in the exercises, both beginners and advanced dancers can further develop their individual level.

The Improvisation/Composition class encourages creative movement processes in which improvisation and choreographic design merge. Starting from thematic prompts, associative imagery, or open-ended questions, participants develop movement material independently, in dialogue with others, or in collaboration with the instructor. These open tasks foster individual expressiveness and build trust in intuitive decision-making within dance. As the class progresses, selected sequences are collectively reflected upon, refined, and assembled into short choreographic phrases. This collaborative process invites playful exploration of compositional principles such as rhythm, spatial design, structure, and dynamics, making them accessible through direct physical experience. Each session begins with a warm-up that offers both an emotional and physical entry into the class. The warm-up is thematically aligned with the session’s focus and facilitates a smooth transition from everyday awareness into a state of creative and embodied presence. The class is open to all levels of experience. It provides a supportive entry point for beginners to discover foundational improvisation and composition tools, while offering more experienced dancers space to deepen their choreographic understanding and movement vocabulary.

Training is conducted barefoot or in socks.
