Experience level Beginner: Designed for participants with 6 to 12 months of experience in the respective movement practice. Little to no prior knowledge needed.
This class introduces the foundational principles of Contemporary Dance – a movement practice that blends physical presence, creative expression, and technical elements such as momentum, balance and coordination.
At its core, the class focuses on cultivating an organic, flowing movement quality that is both dynamic and sensitive. Through an embodied use of gravity, body weight, breath, and swing, participants explore a dance experience that balances tension and release, control and spontaneity.
Step by step, the class introduces central aspects of contemporary technique – including floorwork (movement close to or on the ground), expansive sequences through space, and introductory improvisation tasks. Technical fundamentals such as coordination, flow, and musicality are gently built up and consolidated through accessible choreographic combinations.
The aim is to enhance body awareness, build trust in one’s own movement, and create space for personal expression – all without requiring any prior dance experience. This is not about performance or perfection, but about curiosity, playfulness, and the joy of moving.
Classes are danced barefoot or in socks.
